Buffy Summers arrives in Sunnydale, California after being kicked out of a number of schools for unruly behaviour. At her last school she burned down the gymnasium: naturally no-one believed her story that it was full of vampires, and she was expelled. Around this time Buffy's parents, Hank and Joyce, divorced, and Buffy blames herself for the break-up.
Buffy is not your average teenager. She is a Slayer, destined to fight the forces of evil. She arrives in Sunnydale unaware that the town's school sits above a porthole of psychic energy, a gateway to another dimension, populated by demons - the Hellmouth. She soon discovers that this attracts vampires and other foes from miles around.
Buffy lives with her divorcee mother, Joyce, who is blissfully unaware that her daughter is killing vampires when she's not studying algebra. Buffy leads a strange double existence, balancing her responsibilities as the Slayer with her desire for an ordinary teenage life. Guided by her Watcher, Rupert Giles, and supported by the academically-gifted Willow Rosenberg, and her friend Xander Harris, Buffy usually manages to cope with school life and Sunnydale's vampire population. Buffy's been less fortunate in matters of the heart. Her duties make it difficult to form long-term relationships. Buffy finds herself irresistibly drawn to the mysterious Angel, and is initially horrified when she discovers that he is a vampire...
In 'Prophecy Girl'
Buffy was forced to confront her deepest fears. Knowing that her encounter with
The Master might end her life she fought against her natural impulse to simply
quit. She confronted The Master's lair, but was bitten and died. She was found
and revived by Angel and Xander, who gave her the kiss of life.
Her relationship with Angel has been a traumatic one. After their first night
together Angel’s soul was destroyed and the vampire turned evil again, pitting
him against a heartbroken Buffy. Buffy, knowing that Angel had to pay his
subsequent murderous rampage, sent Angel to Hell, but he soon returned, renewed,
and Buffy nursed Angel back to health.
A battle-scarred alternate-universe version of Buffy appeared in 'The
Wish'. This
version of Buffy had never come to Sunnydale and had been working with another
Watcher in Cleveland. She was summoned by Giles to help undo a spell cast by
Anyanka, but died at the hands of
The Master.
Faith is another
Slayer, summoned into action following the death of Kendra (in ‘Becoming – Part
II’), and she immediately offers to assist Buffy in the fight against the forces
of evil. After being regaled with tales of her adventures, Giles and the team
soon discover that Faith’s Watcher is not, as she claimed, attending a retreat
in the Cotswolds, but was in fact killed by a bestial vampire, Kakistos.
The team soon discovers that there’s a dark side to Faith’s character, which
makes Buffy in particular wary. (Shortly after Faith’s arrival, she tells Giles
that Faith “isn’t playing with a full deck”.) Her fears are realised when Faith
accidentally stakes and kills a human, the Deputy Mayor, and has no apparent
regrets about doing so. This event alienates her from the team, and Faith joins
forces with the
Mayor, as he
prepares for his ascension to power.
Eliza Dushku was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 30th, 1980. She
trained as a dancer studying ballet, jazz and tap. Her acting career took off
after she won a role alongside Juliette Lewis and C. Thomas Howell in the 1992
movie 'That Night'. Since then she has appeared in James Cameron’s 1994
blockbuster 'True Lies' (as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter, Dana); as Pearl in

1995 comedy 'Bye, Bye Love'. She has regularly appeared on stage, at the
Watertown Children's Theatre, which she has attended for many years, often
providing signing for the deaf. She has three older brothers, including actor
Nate. Her father is a professor at Boston University. She will soon be seen in a
film about rival cheerleading squads, 'Bring It On'.
A
cocky and witty vamp from 19th century England, Spike got his former
(pre-bloodsucker) name, William the Bloody, because of his bloody awful poetry.
In 1880 the sensitive poet was sired by his Vampire lover Drusilla and dubbed
Spike because of his penchant for torturing victims with railroad spikes. Spike
has killed two Slayers: one lived during the Boxer Rebellion; the second was a
punk rock kid in New York whose trench coat has become part of Spike's signature
look.
As one of the most interesting members of Sunnydale's night stalkers, Spike had
an off-and-on romance with Drusilla, who ended up leaving our favorite bad boy
the first time for the Chaos Demon and the second time for the Fungus Demon.
According to Dru, the Victorian poet-turned-psychotic Slayer killer simply
wasn't evil enough for her.
The wandering Spike returned to Sunnydale in search of the Gem of Amarra, which
would make him invincible. Eventually, Spike began dating Harmony, the former
Sunnydale High snob-turned-fang-face. Not surprisingly, that didn't work out,
and somewhere along the line, Spike developed an unhealthy interest in more than
just Buffy's blood: he wanted her body.
When the Initiative implanted a chip in Spike's head to render him harmless to
humans, Spike became more a fringe member of the Scooby Gang than a nemesis. His
sharp tongue and seductive attitude were eventually irresistible to Buffy, and
they began a torrid affair that was both literally and figuratively destructive.
Their subsequent breakup destroyed Spike and drove him to attack Buffy, but she
fought back and declared she could never love him.
Devastated, Spike took off for Africa in search of a powerful demon who could
help him give the Slayer what's coming to her. Regardless of what he was
expecting, Spike received something no one anticipated: the return of his soul.
Now, all bets are off, and who knows what will happen between Spike and the rest
of the gang when he returns to Sunnydale?
